The RS2 is a highly effective emerger pattern designed to imitate the transitional stage of mayflies, caddisflies, and other small aquatic insects. Developed by Colorado fly tyer Rim Chung in the 1980s, it has since become a staple in trout boxes across the country.
Tied with a sparse, slender body of fine synthetic fibers, the pattern features a simple wing case, a pheasant‑tail fiber tail, and a lightly dubbed thorax. Its minimalist profile makes it especially convincing to selective trout.
Whether fished in tailwaters, freestone rivers, or stillwater environments, the RS2 consistently produces when trout are feeding on emergers just below the surface.
