CDC Caddis

The CDC Caddis is a highly effective dry‑fly pattern designed to imitate an adult caddisfly riding the surface. “CDC” stands for cul de canard—French for “duck’s bottom”—referring to the naturally buoyant feathers used to form the fly’s wings. These fibers trap air, giving the pattern exceptional floatability and a lifelike shimmer.
This fly excels on rivers and streams during active caddis hatches, especially in the late afternoon and evening when adults are most active. It’s best fished over rising trout or drifted through riffles and runs where fish are keyed in on surface insects. Light, natural presentation is the key, and the CDC Caddis consistently delivers when trout are feeding on top.
